I am in love with America Singer!
So, this morning in the car back from Bristol I casually started reading The Selection by Kiera Cass and now I have finished it. Straight up I will say that I absolutely loved this book and cannot wait to read the others in the series. If I am not too exhausted after I have finished this blog post I think I might start the second one!
It was just SOO good! Extraordinary! Amazing! Captivating! America is one of the most relatable characters, I instantly thought ‘wow I love you, we could totally be friends’
BOOK DESCRIPTION BELOW…
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.
But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.
Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself–and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined. Less
I am just on a THE SELECTION hype at the moment, sometimes I go a few weeks without reading and then I read a book like this, that completely and utterly captivates me and it reminds me of how much I actually love reading!
The story line to this series is so clever, the rating system reminded me of books such as THE HUNGER GAMES AND DIVERGENT which I also find so fascinating! I think they present the society divides in a really clever, entertaining and thought provoking way.
This dystopian novel really captured my attention, the glitz and glamour that surrounded the royal family enticed me and made me want to be part of the selection, I would love to wear beautiful gowns like the ones that were so elegantly crafted by exquisite description.
However the hard hitting brutality that surrounded the lower rankings also makes me think and in conclusion if I was in America’s situation I would work my hardest to win over the Prince in order to provide my family with a comfortable life. Her selflessness made her a honorable characters, while her sarcastic and suborn personality made the book easy to read and funny!
I am sorry to any Aspen fans out that but after reading the first book I am definitely team Maxon! He is sweet, awkward and caring.
I don’t want to give too much of the story line away because I want everyone to experience it on their own; if you enjoy other dystopian novels you will definitely enjoy this one! Please go and check it out, you won’t regret it! Go and fall in love with Maxon and American!
I would rate this book 5/5 because I am now hooked and cannot think of anything else other than the perplexing questions that haunt the ending of the book. Who will she choose? Will she win? Ahhhhhh…I love it when books leave you begging for more information. Please comment below if you have read the book and enjoyed it.
