The perfect summer read… Sparkling Stilettos by Jess Wright

First of all I would like to say a massive thank you to ‘Totally Bound Publishing’ for sending me this book to review. I have actually met the author of this book in 2012, at the Katy Perry London Premiere and I frequently watch TOWIE so when this book opportunity came about, I was super excited.

Chasing dreams can be tough, even when you run as fast as your bespoke stilettos will take you…

As Megan Winter’s wedding day approaches, her heart flutters with excitement. Dylan Dunkin-Buckshaw is a great catch. Handsome in a sharp, confident kind of way, he’s everything she’s ever wanted in a man and a husband. A match made in heaven—right?

With a fledgling shoe design business that’s set to take off, Megan decides to take control of her life and strut her stuff. With the help of loyal friends and a handsome stranger she begins to turn heads and get noticed. She’s hitched her wagon to the stars and she’s planning on enjoying the ride, wearing her best stilettos whilst she does it!

But will she reach those glittering stars? Is there something lurking in the shadows to hold her back? Under all the excitement and sparkle of her new found adventures there seems to be an ominous presence trying to take the shine from her happiness.

I really enjoyed this book, it is everything I require from a summer read. It was fun, fast to read and fabulous. Megan Winter’s was a flawless protagonist; she was feisty, independent and lovable. Megan had a relatable depth about her character, which made her  a perfect paradox, she was strong yet had a vulnerable…which I absolutely loved. It made her easy to connect with and personally sucked me into the narrative and kept me wanting more.

Georgie, Brendon and Megan created a fabulous trio full of laughter, excitement, support and comfort. Their friendship gave the novel a comedic element which I really enjoyed, Brendon and Gucci were comedy gold. Then there is James Carter…the mysterious ‘hot guy’ who really captured my attention, the juxtaposition between James and Dylan really emphasised the differences between them and represented James as a hero/prince figure who comes along and makes Megan happy. While Dylan’s overbearing and controlling characteristics made him appear as a villain figure, making me feel more sorry for Megan.

The narrative itself worked really well, the novel starts by throwing the reader straight into the story-line which immediately grabs the readers attention.  The narrative throughout continued to please me; especially with the switch in point of view from Megan to James Carter (A.K.A ‘HOT GUY’)   it gave me a chance to develop a connection with James and see Megan from another person’s eyes.  The shift in point of view also allowed me to gain extra knowledge before other character, the use of dramatic irony made me feel more involved within the narrative, which sucked me into the story further.

I really enjoyed this book and devoured it within an evening. The cliffhanger at the end not only left me wanting more, it made me need more. I want to know what happens…tell me…now…(please?) Megan is the type of protagonist that people should read about and think ‘wow, with determination and ambition I can achieve anything.’ This strong type of women needs to be more publicized and I am really proud of Jess Wright for creating a character that did not rely on a man to fulfill her dreams.

To conclude this review I will say that if you are going on holiday or are looking for a quick, enjoyable read then go and pick up this book. It has friendship, work, ambition, romance and drama in it. What else could you possible ask for?

    1. I believe they are in their twenties, I cannot remember exactly. It only switches to James twice and they are at key moments. Well I thought so anyway because they came in to justify his actions and show the worries he had regarding Megan 😊
