I try to do these weekly but I have failed for a long time now haha. Forgive me? This is a weekly challenge hosted by the broke and the bookish. I saw this weeks on Coffeeloving Bookoholic and the books she picked and some of my all time favourites- so I feel like I HAVE to do it.
TOP TEN BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS IF YOU WANT TO GET INTO CLASSICS.
I absolutely love classics I do…good thing I studies an English Literature undergraduate course.
- My all time favourite book is – On the Road by Jack Kerouac. It both breaks my heart and baffles me when I see people giving it like one star. WHYYYY? I initially read this book in anticipation for the 2012 movie starring Kristen Stewart (one of my all time favourite actresses) but I am so glad I read it then because it still stays with me now.
- The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald. I first read this years ago and then I had to study it for first year at University and I fell in love with it deeper.
- Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. I love love love Dickens.
- Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.
- Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.
- Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte.
- Lord of the Flies by William Golding.
- A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
- A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
- The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
Have you read any of these?
Which classics do you love?

I have read in no particular order: The Secret Garden, Lord of the Flies, The Great Gatsby, and Wuthering Heights. Others I have seen as movies, but don’t consider that the same as reading them. I think I still find Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead as well as Betty Smith’s Joy in the Morning all classics that I have read more than once and will re-read again.

I’ve read all of them except Oliver Twist (I did read an abridged version though…). As to On The Road – I think it’s the kind of book that you will only love if you read it at the right moment. I only read it as a full grown working adult with responsibility and it seemed so frivolous. But had I read it at university – I know I would have loved it. I have a similar reaction to Catcher in the Rye – read it as a teeneager and believed it was the best book ever. If I think back, I agree now with the people who say Holden is a self centered jerk, but so are all teens for a bit and that’s why the book is so great. I missed the window and now it’s just tainted.

Thank you for the stimulating comment, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I totally agree, some books grow with me as I get older and other I learn are young and not as great upon reflection π

I read Catcher in the Rye when I was about 15 and I didn’t like itππππ

I actually don’t like classics. I sometimes wonder if something is wrong with me because of thatπ€. I’ll take a good fantasy novel over a Dickens novel any day, any time.
