A not so secret fact about myself is that I am a sucker for emotional narratives. It feels like a good book when my heart is penetrated by emotion and I am left paralysed by long lasting thoughts. Anyone else feel this?
So I thought I would write a post today about the books that did just that and more… evidently I love a bit of sadness and romance.
- The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.
- Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
- After You by Jojo Moyes
- My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult
- 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher
- The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
- The Life and Death of Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
- Atonement by Ian Mcewan
- A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness 9
Lucky for me 9 out of 10 of these books are films (which also BROKE ME and my poor little heart). Come on After You I am here and waiting for a movie version. I need visual closure as well. Each one of these books absolutely ripped my heart out and made me cry pools and pools of tears. I probably could have filled a swimming pool of tear after these books.
- Have you read these wonderful books or seen the films?
- I live by the fact that you have to read the book first but it is okay if you have not…lets chat.
- What books broke you?
- Can you recommend any books for me based on these books?
Love this list! Must try a few! Have already read The Book Thief (several times) and The Life and Times of Charlie Saint Cloud, but it was so long ago I may need to revisit it! Used to read myself to sleep every night and trying to get into the habit again! By the way, thanks so much for reading and liking my blog. Means so much to me!

OMG P.S. I Love You. I feel like it’s still too soon, I have repressed that book and film. haha 🙂 My Sister’s Keeping is soo sad, both the film and the book- although they are drastically different. 😀

TFIOS changed my life!! I read it ever year and it never gets easier, but it’s also a book that males me feel better, and a book that can do that is special! Me Before and The Book Thief both broke me, as did A Monster Calls (which I read in less than a day!) They were very special books that all ended with rivers coming out of my eyes, no exceptions 😢 Great list!

It’s incredible isn’t it the ability of a book! I aspire to write something that does that to people. Are the authors evil or genius for inflicting that pain? I love books like them because they are full of morals 😏 thank you!

Oh, I love this list! There are a lot of good books on there but Atonement is probably my favourite. It’s also one of my all-time favourite movies. I can’t watch it too often though because it’s just too sad. ❤

aw, the 12th kiss is fabulous !
it’s all about this man who has cheated and wants to leave his wife and son to be with the mistress and the wife said he can leave if after one kiss everyday for the next twelve days, he still feels like doing so.
was an emotional rollercoaster 🤧😂

I have read The Fault in our Stars multiple times. I loved it so much. Charlie St. Cloud broke my heart. It such a good book though and movie. 13 Reasons Why is a book everyone should read. I haven’t had the chance to read My Sisters Keeper and Me Before You but I have seen the movie and boohooed during both. I recommend If I Stay by Gayle Forman, Wonder by RJ Palacio, and Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon.

The Fault in Our Stars is one of my favorite books and because I can relate both the book and the movie broke me. I have yet to read Me Before You but I did see the movie and oh my gosh. I’ve only seen the movie My Sister’s Keeper and since I was diagnosed with cancer a few months after watching that movie, my mom threw it out. 13 Reasons Why, even though it breaks my heart, I could read it again and again. The Netflix show they made from the book only enhanced the heartbreaking. I wasn’t a fan of the movie they made from The Book Thief but I loved the book. Don’t even get me started on Charlie St. Cloud, the book or the movie. The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of my favorites as well. I have not read Atonement but it is on my list. I have also never read A Monster Calls.

Have you read Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira? It is written sort of like Perks but she’s writing to dead celebrities about something that has happened in her life.

Those are very good films aka books. The emotional journey is done so well. It gets the reader gripping the edge of the book scared to turn the page, yet anxious to find out what happens next.#WriterGoals

A Monster Calls was so unexpected and amazing. I read the novel but didn’t really see where it was going for quite a while 😉 I still have to see the movie. I loved My Sister’s Keeper as well! I did a post like this too with 5 ugly cry novels. I love books that really make me feel so emotional!
